To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what the total cost to the public purse was of assistance provided for taxing vehicles acquired under the Motability scheme in each region in each of the last 10 years for which figures are available.

All recipients of War Pensioners Mobility Supplement or the higher rate mobility component of disability living allowance are entitled to an exemption from Vehicle Excise Duty, whether or not they choose to lease a Motability vehicle.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency are responsible for administering Vehicle Excise Duty exemptions. They have advised that the information requested is not collated centrally and can be provided only at disproportionate cost.
