House of Lords written question – answered on 25th June 2012.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what actions they will take following the release of figures from the Office for National Statistics indicating that their plans to link the state pension age to life expectancy will disproportionately affect people in the north of England because they live shorter lives.
The Chancellor announced at this year's Budget that there will be an automatic review of the state pension age to ensure it keeps pace with increases in longevity. Details of how this will operate will be published later this year.
