To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government how many (a) circulars and (b) consultation documents were issued by his Department in each of the last two years.

The Department for Communities and Local Government distributes information in the form of circulars, official letters, statistical releases/reports and bulletins to various groups including Local Government, Planning Authorities and Fire and Rescue Authorities. The majority of these are available to view on the Department's website:

http://www.communities.gov.uk/corporate/publications/all/

The Department for Communities and Local Government published on its website 44 consultation documents in 2011 and 32 consultation documents in 2010.

To place these figures in context, 66 consultation documents were published in 2009.
