To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have commissioned any research to better understand which system of front of package food labelling would best support United Kingdom consumers in making informed choices about the food they purchase and consume; and, if they have not done so, whether there is any action they propose to take.

This issue has been researched comprehensively in the United Kingdom, the European Union and in other countries around the world. The research indicates that consumers are able to make use of all the forms of front of pack labelling currently on the UK market to choose foods that are healthier but that they can find variation in formats confusing. The UK Governments have launched a consultation with the food industry and other partners to explore ways of achieving greater consistency and clarity in UK practice.
