To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many (a) individuals and (b) small and medium-sized enterprises had disputes with HM Revenue and Customs in each year since 1997.
HM Revenue and Customs does not maintain a central record of the number of disputes it has with businesses and individuals. For information on the number of tax appeal cases dealt with by the First-tier Tax Tribunal I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave on
