To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what his policy is on pressing for a moratorium on drilling for oil in the Virunga National Park and UNESCO World Heritage site in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The issuance of licences for oil exploration and exploitation within its territory is a matter for the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo. However we have expressed to them our concerns about exploration in Virunga National Park and we call on all parties involved to ensure that transparent plans are in place to protect the environment.
