To ask Her Majesty's Government whether, in the light of changes in the prison population, they will hold a consultation about updating the Prison Act 1952 to reflect modern ideas on the prison chaplaincy.

I hope the noble Lord will agree that the Prison Act 1952 has not been a barrier to the development of prison chaplaincy on a multi faith basis, in order to meet the needs of the changes to the prison population. We have no plans currently to hold a consultation about updating the Act in this respect.
