To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment she has made of the potential financial effects of introducing a minimum price for alcohol on (a) the UK beverage alcohol manufacturing industry, (b) the on-trade, (c) the off-trade and (d) the average consumer of alcohol; and if she will make a statement.

The Government conducts impact assessments and public consultations prior to introducing any new alcohol legislation.

The Government will set out its wide range of action to tackle excessive alcohol consumption in its forthcoming alcohol strategy.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
