To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make it his policy to end the use of 0844 prefix telephone numbers for (a) the Referral Booking Management System and (b) IT departments of primary care trusts or their successor bodies.
The Department issued guidance and directions to national health service bodies in December 2009 on the cost of telephone calls, which prohibit the use of telephone numbers which charge people more than the equivalent cost of calling a geographical number to contact any part of the NHS.
