To ask the hon. Member for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, representing the House of Commons Commission, what the annual cost is of bottled water supplied to (a) committee rooms and (b) Westminster Hall.

The cost of providing bottled water for House of Commons Committee and meeting rooms in the Palace of Westminster and Portcullis House for financial year 2010-11 was £6,983.25, and from April 2011 until December 2011 £8,110.70. It is not possible to separate the cost of water provided in Westminster Hall. The Commission has, following a proposal by the Administration Committee, agreed to trials using tap water and a water cooler, to test the proposition that alternative ways of providing water would have higher costs but result in reduced carbon emissions.
