Justice written question – answered at on 28 February 2012.
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice by what percentage the budget for private and public family law legal aid will be reduced in 2014-15 compared to 2009-10 if the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill is enacted in its current form.
There is no separate budget for private and public family law legal aid; funding forms part of the overall legal aid provision. Based on a counterfactual assessment using 2009-10 as a baseline and the figures published in the impact assessment, spending would reduce by 29% in steady state. Steady state figures are employed here for consistency purposes, as all figures in the impact assessment are presented on this basis.
