To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how she plans to implement the proposed licensing scheme to prevent circuses from using wild animals if they do not provide appropriate welfare standards.

The licensing scheme will be implemented by regulations under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. We will consult publicly on our proposals early in 2012.
