To ask Her Majesty's Government why passengers from Northern Ireland are required to supply photographic identification to the UK Border Agency at Gatwick Airport; when this was introduced; and by whom.

The UK Border Agency does not routinely require passengers arriving from Northern Ireland to supply photographic identification.

Passengers arriving from the Republic of Ireland, which is part of the Common Travel Area (CTA), are currently, as a limited risk testing measure, being asked to present a form of photographic identification to ensure that only eligible passengers are using the CTA channel.
