To ask Her Majesty's Government, in the light of the recent report of the European Commission highlighting the welfare problems caused by the long-distance transportation of horses across Europe, what action they intend to take on this issue.

We will continue to push the EU Commission for a review of the rules on long journey transportation of all animals, including horses. In the interim, we will also be playing a full part in the work which the EU Commission believes will ensure better enforcement of the existing transportation rules, as outlined in the same report.
