To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what recent discussions he has had with representatives of the World Food Programme on the provision of emergency food assistance in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

The Secretary of State for International Development, my right hon. Friend Mr Mitchell, has not had any recent discussions with the World Food Programme (WFP) on the provision of emergency food assistance in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. However, the British high commission in Colombo meets regularly with all international agencies present in Sri Lanka, including those based in the north. They have regular discussions with the WFP about the situation in Sri Lanka.
