The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is currently developing a clinical guideline on the safe and effective use of opioids in palliative care and has not yet issued final guidance to the national health service.

NICE has published draft guidance for consultation and stakeholders have until 6 January to comment on NICE'S provisional recommendations. The Institute currently expects to publish its final guidance in May 2012.
