The Government have not made an assessment of whether a third rail track is needed between Tottenham Hale and Brimsdown on the line between London Liverpool Street station and Cambridge. In its London and South East Route Utilisation Strategy, Network Rail assessed a number of infrastructure options on this line—including a third track between Lea Bridge and Brimsdown—and has now proposed an alternative intervention at Brimsdown in its initial industry plan. The Government will set out their requirements for the railway for the five year period from 2014 to 2019 in the High Level Output Specification, to be published in July 2012.
