To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government if he will assess the effect on rural areas of (a) any changes to the arrangements for local retention of business rates and (b) proposals for metropolitan areas to retain a greater proportion of business rates.

The Government will shortly be introducing a Bill to give effect to their proposals for business rates retention. This Bill will be accompanied by an impact assessment setting out the Government's initial views on the impacts of the proposals.
