To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what estimate he has made of the cost to his Department of introducing weekly signing for all 18 to 24-year-olds on jobseeker's allowance from the fifth month of their claim.

The cost of providing weekly signing was included as part of a package of support within the Youth Contract that is expected to cost nearly £1 billion over the next three years. The final costs for weekly signing will be driven by the volume of claimants and the Department for Work and Pensions does not forecast unemployment levels.
