To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport whether he has made an estimate of the amount of revenue lost to the creative industries due to free pitching in the last five years; if he will estimate the likely losses over the comprehensive spending review period; and what steps he is taking to eliminate this practice.
The Department has not made any assessment of free pitching along these lines, and the advertising industry has not put this forward as one of its top concerns. If it wishes to do so in future, the creative industries council would be the right forum to do so. In general we are in favour of industry setting out guidelines for its own best working practices.
