To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills whether he has made an assessment of the capability of sub-post offices and post office locals to offer Government services to the same level and quality as those provided by Crown post offices.

The Department has made no such as assessment as decisions on the range of services to be offered at individual post offices are operational matters for Post Office Ltd within the terms of the contracts with their clients which will vary on a case by case basis. I have therefore asked Paula Vennells, the managing director of Post Office Ltd, to respond directly to the hon. Member and a copy of her reply will be placed in the Libraries of the House.

The Government’s ambition is that all post offices should offer the services they are able to provide within the terms of the contracts between Post Office Ltd and their clients to the highest standards possible.
