Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs written question – answered at on 29 November 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of recent political developments in Egypt.
My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs has previously expressed our deep concern about the violent events in Cairo and elsewhere in Egypt last week, and the loss of life and injuries. We have repeatedly urged the Egyptian authorities to establish a clear timetable for a rapid transition to civilian-led democratic rule. It is critical that the parliamentary elections proceed freely, fairly and safely, allowing the Egyptian people to express their will.
