To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the effect on the UK's relations with Italy of the change of Government in that country; and if he will make a statement.

I welcome the formation of a new Government in Italy. The Prime Minister has already spoken to Prime Minister Monti, and I know my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs has done so likewise and has expressed his support in light of the difficult and tough decisions that Italy will have to make in the coming months. The UK enjoys a strong and healthy relationship with Italy, and I look forward to that continuing through the range of security, economic and European issues.
