To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment she has made of the importance of sea port capacity for economic growth potential.
The Government consider sea port capacity to be vitally important in facilitating growth in an island economy which has limited alternatives available to the use of sea transport for the movement of freight and bulk commodities. This is reflected in the National Policy Statement for Ports, which is currently before Parliament.
