To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many schools have (a) become academies and (b) applied to become academies in each (i) region and (ii) parliamentary constituency since May 2010.

As of 1 November 2011, 1,100 schools in England had successfully converted to academy status, while 1,600 schools (including the open converted academies) had applied to convert to academy status. The precise number of open converted academies and applications to convert in each region and in each constituency has been placed in the House Libraries.
