The Department for Culture, Media and Sport's Memorial Grant Scheme makes grants equivalent to value added tax incurred by charities and faith groups in erecting, maintaining or repairing public memorials, including war memorials. The scheme applies to memorials in the form of statues, monuments and similar constructions. Since the start of the scheme in 2005-06, it has given out over £1.8 million to support memorials across the UK.
