To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many failed Tamil asylum seekers have been returned to Sri Lanka in each month since May 2010; and if she will make a statement.

The UK Border Agency does not record specific data regarding an individual's ethnicity.

The information can be provided only at disproportionate cost as it would require a manual search of individual case files.

The UK Border Agency can identify that between 1 May 2010 and 30 September 2011, 573 failed asylum seekers have been returned to Sri Lanka.
