Local authorities are required by section 509AA of the Education Act to publish a transport policy statement each year which sets out the support they will provide for 16 to 19-year-olds attending further education. The Department for Education is undertaking an exercise to establish whether all local authorities have published transport policy statements as required by section 509AA of the Education Act 1996.

We do not have information on the changes to transport subsidies for 16 to 18-year-olds accessing education and training between academic years 2010-11 and 2011-12. Decisions regarding the extent of transport arrangements, including the provision of any financial assistance, are for local authorities to make following appropriate consultation.
