To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what progress she has made on reform of fisheries policy to reduce fish discards; and if she will make a statement.

Reform of the common fisheries policy must tackle discards; I therefore support the EU Commission in its ambition to eliminate discards. We need a flexible framework that enables fishermen to minimise discards in ways that suit different fisheries. I will continue to argue for change drawing on the work in the UK with the fishing industry, for example our trials of catch quotas and use of more selective fishing gear.
