To ask the Secretary of State for International Development if he will provide funding to the Kachin Women's Association Thailand for emergency relief in Kachin State, Burma.

The Department of International Development (DFID) has carefully considered a funding request from the Kachin Women's Association Thailand (KWAT) for emergency relief in Kachin State Burma. DFID staff have recently informed KWAT that we are not able to support this request. I have however agreed that funding through the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and a humanitarian non-governmental organisation already working in the area may be used to assist people displaced by recent conflict in Kachin State.
