To ask the Secretary of State for International Development how many full-time equivalent staff were employed in the office of his Department's chief scientific adviser in each of the last five years for which figures are available; and on what date the office was established.

In 2007 and 2008 two full-time equivalent staff were employed in this office in addition to the chief scientific adviser.

In 2009, 2010 and 2011 3.3 full-time equivalent staff were employed in this office in addition to the chief scientific adviser.

The office of the chief scientific adviser was established in DFID in January 2005.
