Home Department written question – answered at on 12 October 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment she has made of the accessibility and clarity of UK Border Agency guidance for Commonwealth military personnel and foreign national families of military personnel moving to the UK.
Those Foreign and Commonwealth nationals serving with the armed forces are considered exempt from immigration control throughout their service. The actions required relating to the immigration status of their families coming to live in the United Kingdom are clearly set out in the immigration rules and in guidance on the UK Border Agency website.
The UK Border Agency works closely with the Ministry of Defence to ensure guidance and briefing notes issued by both Departments are amended when necessary and easily available to all service personnel.
