Home Department written question – answered at on 12 October 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information her Department holds on the average number of years in employment for a police constable in (a) Ashfield constituency, (b) Nottinghamshire and (c) England.
Information on the average number of years in employment for a police constable is not collected centrally. The Home Office collects figures for the number of currently serving officers, broken down by rank and length of service. However, length of service is grouped by size-bands, some of which span five years (eg 10 years to 15 years length of service), therefore any calculation of current average length of service would be an approximation.
