Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs written question – answered at on 12 October 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many hon. Members his Department assisted in arranging visas for or meetings in China in (a) 2010 and (b) 2011.
Applications for visas for China are dealt with by the Chinese embassy. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) does not assist hon. Members with their visa applications. However the FCO Travel Centre will provide practical assistance to FCO and other Ministers with their applications for a visa.
The China Department of the FCO and our embassy and consulates general in China may assist visiting Members of Parliament and parliamentary delegations with setting up their programmes and by providing factual briefings where necessary. The Department provided logistical assistance and/or factual briefings for 12 non-ministerial visits to China by hon. Members in 2010 and 16 in 2011.
