Records are not kept centrally of the number of nominations for honours made by members of the public to government departments. The Cabinet Office does record which of the nominations it receives from government departments have public support. In the Birthday Honours List 2011, 49 per cent of the successful nominations for the Prime Minister's List either originated in nominations by members of the public or had been supported by members of the public, or were recommendations by third party/public/private sector organisations.
