House of Lords written question – answered on 14 September 2011.
To ask Her Majesty's Government whether it is possible to award either a Victoria Cross or a George Cross without the award being announced.
Any honour granted by the Sovereign to a British subject is normally announced in the London Gazette, although in exceptional circumstances (such as for reasons of security), an award may not be publicised immediately.
