To ask Her Majesty's Government what was the expenditure on hire cars for (a) unmarked patrol cars, (b) other purposes, for each police force in England and Wales in the last year for which figures are available.

The most recent and only data on vehicle hire expenditure held by the Home Office are for the financial year 2009-10, and have been sourced from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) in the following table. These data cannot be split according to the purpose of the vehicle hire.
