To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps she is taking to reduce the incidence of scrap metal theft.

The Government are concerned at the extent of metal theft and the serious impact it can have on the national infrastructure and on local communities. The Home Office is working closely with the police (through the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Metal Theft Working Group) to tackle this criminality and to reduce the stolen goods market that drives it. We are currently exploring what other action can be taken to reduce metal theft.
