DEFRA's first priority in its business plan is to help improve the competitiveness of British farming which will make it a more rewarding career prospect.

We support and encourage the activities of the Agri-Skills Forum whose remit is to raise skill levels and improve the professionalism of the industry, making it more attractive to young people.

In addition we are working with both the industry and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to help increase the uptake of apprenticeships by farmers to encourage young people into farming careers.
