Since the introduction of spending controls across Government on marketing and advertising in June 2010, there has been a 68 per cent reduction in government spend on advertising and marketing through the Central Office of Information (COI), from £532 million in 2009-10 to an estimated £168 million in 2010-11.

The Government therefore currently have no planned advertising commitments with News International.
