Business, Innovation and Skills written question – answered at on 19 July 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills what steps his Department is taking to encourage local enterprise partnerships to assist small and medium-sized enterprises to commercialise new and emerging technologies in areas with potential environmental benefit; and if he will make a statement.
Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) are developed from the bottom-up and it is for LEPs themselves to decide what their priorities are. The Government’s expectation is that LEPs will work closely with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in deciding these priorities. Where LEPs are interested in assisting SMEs to commercialise new and emerging technologies in areas with potential environmental benefit, then the Government will work with them to do so.
