Transport written question – answered at on 18 July 2011.
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what the (a) visibility and (b) distance criteria are for the installation of solid double white lines on class (i) A, (ii) B and (iii) C roads in England.
Visibility and distance criteria for solid double white lines are not regulated. The Traffic Signs Manual, chapter 5, section 5, available on the Department for Transport website at:
http://www2.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/tss/tsmanual/trafficsignsmanualchapter5.pdf gives advice on the appropriate procedure for determining whether they should be installed. The selection criteria are independent of road class.
