To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport

(1) what assessment he has made of the potential for satellite broadband technology to meet demand for high-speed internet access;

(2) what contribution he expects satellite broadband technology to make to the deployment of super-fast broadband.

No assessment has been made. The Government's objective of having the best superfast broadband network in Europe, with superfast broadband to 90% of all UK premises, and standard broadband to virtually every community in the UK, would be delivered through a mixed technology solution including satellite.
