House of Lords written question – answered on 4th July 2011.
To ask Her Majesty's Government which countries currently receive budget support from the Government.
The coalition Government recently reviewed the overall approach to providing budget support, with emphasis on reducing waste and inefficiency. The Secretary of State has announced that over the next four years, general budget support provided by the UK Government will decline by nearly half. We are implementing a shift towards targeted funding to important sectors (sector support), such as health and education.
In 2010-11 financial year, the UK provided budget support to the following 10 countries. Ghana; Malawi; Mozambique; Pakistan; Rwanda; Sierra Leone; Tanzania; Uganda; Vietnam; and Zambia.
