To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if she will maintain the commitment not to permit the use of great apes in scientific procedures.

The UK currently operates a policy ban on the use of great apes in scientific research covered by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. I cannot currently envisage any circumstances in a particular case which would justify a change to this approach.
