To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government for what reason he proposes to prohibit the investigation by local authorities of council tax benefit fraud.

As the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, my right hon. Friend Mr Pickles, confirmed in his written ministerial statement of 17 February 2011, Hansard, column 92WS, this Department will consult in due course on proposals for localising support for council tax in England. This will include arrangements for investigating fraud.
