To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the Government's policy is on signing the Council of Europe convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

We are supportive of the work of the Council of Europe in raising awareness of violence against women and girls and supported the efforts to agree a strong convention. However there are a number of articles on which we require more detailed consideration before a final decision can be made on the signature and ratification of the convention.
