To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent discussions he has had with the Welsh Assembly Government on the electrification of commuter railway lines into Cardiff; and if he will make a statement.

The Department for Transport is working with the Welsh Assembly Government to develop a business case for the electrification of the Cardiff Valley lines for consideration within the next rail investment control period beginning in 2014, and are engaged in discussions to that effect.
