To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will commission research to examine the reasons for the difference between the rate of the UK and the median rate for the EU-15 in respect of epilepsy mortality.

The Medical Research Council (MRC) is responsible for the funding of medical research in the United Kingdom. Working through its council, scientific boards, and committees, the MRC is independent in its choice of which research to support. Research proposals are stringently peer reviewed by a core of scientific experts and other external expert referees both in the UK and abroad.
