To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have to make the United Kingdom less dependent on oil following the International Energy Agency's advice that "peak oil" has been reached.

The IEA analysis suggests that conventional crude oil production peaked in 2006. This does not include other sources such as natural gas liquids and unconventional oil. When these sources are taken into account, their analysis for the new policies scenario suggests that global oil production will increase by 15 mb/d between 2009 and 2035.

The Government have a wide range of measures to make the UK less dependent on oil. Our climate change and energy efficiency policies, such as the Renewable Energy Strategy and Low Carbon Transport Strategy are in place not only to reduce the UK's carbon emissions, but also to help ease our demand for oil.
